Tooth whitening is a very
popular procedure in cosmetics dentistry. It is a simple,
effective, technique for obtaining a whiter smile. Our office is
pleased to offer two methods to achieve a whiter smile. You can
choose to bleach at home on your own time or if you would like to
see dramatic results quickly we also offer in office laser
bleaching. To bleach at home we first make custom trays designed
for your teeth and provide you with a bleaching kit and directions
about how to achieve the results you want. At home bleaching
usually takes 2 weeks to achieve the desired brightness. Laser
bleaching is done in office in about 90 minutes. It uses the
latest, most advanced state-of-the-art deep whitening technology.
We also provide custom trays following the laser treatment for touch ups when needed in the
future.
Dr. Hopkins has put into practice a donation plan where monies
generated from our various bleaching programs is entirely donated
to the Jordan Hopkins Foundation for cancer research at Vancouver
Children’s Hospital.
Answers to
your questions...
Is it safe?
The primary
ingredient in the bleaching gel is recognized as a safe and
effective ingredient by the dental community.
How white will my teeth get?
Bleaching has been able to achieve dramatic results in most
patients. Your results may vary depending on the type of stains,
thickness of enamel, your age and personal habits. Ask your dentist
how much whiter your teeth can be!
Does it work on crowns, veneers and bonds?
While results may vary, whitening procedures are generally not
designed for crowns, veneers or bonds.
Is this procedure for
everyone?
Basically, anyone who
wants his/her teeth whitened can benefit from the bleaching
procedures, except people who are allergic to the ingredients in
the gel. If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, or have any
extraordinary conditions, please us know ahead of time.
Will my teeth stay white?
After bleaching treatments, you should resume your normal
dental hygiene routine - brushing your teeth at least twice a day,
and flossing. We do recommend, however, that you keep the
consumption of staining food, such as tea, coffee, red wine, etc.,
to a minimum to ensure your long-lasting laser-white
smile.
