The LaserSmile™ in conjunction with the LaserWhite 10™, as well
as the VivaStyle® whitening gel is designed to be safe and
effective, and is an excellent means to bleach and whiten dark,
yellowed or discolored teeth with extrinsic and intrinsic
staining.
The degree of whitening varies from patient to patient based on
the type of stain, enamel thickness, tooth structure and age. Teeth
with deep intrinsic stain in the grayer tones generally will not
respond as well as yellow shaded teeth. Some patients have teeth
that are natural yellow shade because of enamel transparency which
allows the color of dentin to be seen. In this case, patients may
show no improvement after LaserWhite 10™ or VivaStyle® treatment.
Realistic expectations will be discussed prior to beginning the
bleaching process.
Existing crowns, onlays, veneers and composite restorations will
not change color.
A rebound effect of tooth shade could occur. It is recommended
to wait two weeks prior to matching shade for any definitive
restorations.
Areas of hypocalcification will bleach faster than adjacent
tooth structure. These areas are not always clinically evident at
the onset of whitening, and when visible, steps can be taken to
blend the areas as best as possible, although a uniform color is
not always possible in these situations.
For 48 hours following the bleaching process you should not
consume products that can stain teeth. This would include some
fruits, coffee, red wine, tomato sauces, tea, tobacco, curry
etc.
Using the LaserWhite 10™ treatment patients will see results in
one 90 minute bleaching session. Using the VivaStyle® at home
bleaching system will usually achieve desired results in 10-12
consecutive days of treatment.
You may experience sensitivity during and/or after the tooth
whitening procedure. Dr. Hopkins will recommend the appropriate
pain relief medication post-operatively. Sensitivity usually
subsides within 1-3 days.
Depending on your diet and the manner in which you maintain your
newly whitened teeth, results may last several years. Keep in mind
that certain foods, smoking habits and medications may have an
effect on you teeth. You should keep your customized trays for
future touch-up applications.
If you have any questions or concerns please talk to the
treatment provider prior to beginning the bleaching process.
