The cleaning methods of implants vary depending on the type of
implant reconstruction. Daily home care around implants is
necessary. Brushing with a toothbrush, as well as flossing is
important. There may be the need for a prescription mouth rinse
(chlorhexidine), which can further help you keep your implants
clean and healthy.
Electric toothbrushes can also be helpful for cleaning around
implants. Other cleaning aids may be recommended where the specific
needs of your case require them.
Use of a floss threader and super floss is similar. To use, feed
the stiff threader or end of the super floss underneath the
denture. Then slide the floss back and forth on the underside of
the framework, using a shoe shining motion to remove plaque. Be
sure to clean into the sulcus (the gum tissue that surrounds the
implants) on the supporting implants. (See first photo below) Then
gently pull the floss out the side towards the front.

Where space is adequate, a proxy brush can be used under the
denture and around the supporting implants. The key to this
technique is that it should NOT be painful. If it does cause
discomfort, discontinue and discuss with dental staff at your next
appointment. |
